Description

An archaeological survey was undertaken by CFA along a proposed water pipeline route close to Durness, Sutherland District, Highland Region in February 1995. The assessment was commissioned by Highland Regional Council Archaeology Service on behalf of Highland Regional Council Water and Sewerage Department. The assessment was designed to identify and evaluate any archaeological monuments present in the areas, through examination of documentary sources and fieldwalking of the area. The results of this work suggest that, although the locality is rich in archaeological remains of both National and Local importance, the pipeline successfully avoids all but a few monuments of lesser importance. <1>
