EHG3644 - Watching brief - Shore Park, Latheronwheel

Date

Description

A watching brief was carried out by Highland Archaeology Services in 2011 at Shore Park, Latheronwheel, Caithness, during gorse scrub removal; initially in two areas proposed for the planting of broadleaf woodland. The brief was later extended to cover gorse scrub clearance in several areas of an enclosure formed to farm red deer. Large numbers of archaeological sites are recorded within the Latheronwheel area, but these are in plain view. However three features were noted within an area of scrub. One of these was found to have been inaccurately recorded on the Highland HER, while the remaining two were apparently not recorded. They would have been invisible during the initial walkover survey (see EHG3579). <1> <2>
