A rapid pre-afforestation survey by Headland Archaeology Ltd, was undertaken of 2km^2 of land at Cona Chreag on the Stoer Common Grazings, near Lochinver. The survey area is centred on Cona Chreag, a triangular outcrop of rock, which rises to 171m OD. The survey area can be divided into three very broad land-facets: a sheltered eastern and north-eastern area, with relatively deeper soils adjacent to Loch Poll, grading to; an exposed rocky upland area with thin soil cover, grading to; an exposed interior, to the north-west, west and south of Cona Chreag which is dominated by lochs, lochans and boggy ground. In the field, the survey area was traversed at regular intervals and all archaeological features were described. All sites recorded were located, assessed and mapped using a Total Station EDM. <1>
