Description
An archaeological assessment of the area of a proposed water treatment works and storage reservoir at Culduie, and the route of the existing water mains between Applecross village and Toscaig, Applecross was commissioned by the North of Scotland Water Authority. This project was intended to combine a desk-based assessment of known archaeological and historical data with an archaeological field survey. The object of the project was to identify areas where construction or renovation work might affect the archaeological record, both visible and conjectural, and to recommend measures to be taken to safeguard the archaeological record. The archaeological field survey was carried out on April 27th 2000 in wet conditions. This involved walking along the entire length of the route of the pipeline, searching a corridor of up to 50m for unrecorded archaeological features, and visiting known features to assess the potential impact of the project. <1>
