EHG1010 - Walkover survey - Ardtreck, Glen Drynoch & Beinn Conchra

Walkover surveys were carried out by Dualchas Museums' Service in 1995 in three areas that had been put forward for potential tree planting proposals. Area 1 comprised 3.5 hectares 300m to the south of Dun Ardtreck. Area 2A consisted of four separate areas in Glen Drynoch between the A863 and the Drynoch river. Area 2B was a single extended area to the north of the A863 along the lower reaches of the northeast-facing glen side. Area 3 was an area to the north of Ben Conchra between Allt nan Sugh and Glen Udalain. No archaeological sites were found in Areas 1 and 2A. In Area 2B twelve distinct sites lay within or close to the proposed area of planting and numerous boulder alignments, some several hundred metres long divided the hillside into large enclosures. In Area 3 two archaeological sites were found within the proposed planting area and a further four sites lay within a delineated area to the north and east of the proposed planting area. <1>
