EHG3330 - Walk-Over Survey at Sciberscross, Clyne, Sutherland

An archaeological desk-based study and subsequent walk-over survey of an area to the west of Sciberscross, in Strath Brora in East Sutherland, was undertaken in April & May 2010. The survey was required by Scottish Woodlands Ltd to establish the extent of archaeological remains, which would, in turn, determine the viability of planting trees. The survey area comprises a roughly triangular area of land approximately 2km x 1.5km x 1km, covering some 35 hectares (86 acres). It is situated due west and north west of Sciberscross, approximately 11km from the village of Golspie on the east coast of Sutherland. The ground rises from the Brora-Balnacoil-Rogart public road to the broad top of the east flank of Cnoc a’ Garbh-leathaid. The survey resulted in the recording of 100 archaeological features, only 7 of which had previously been recorded. <1>
